The Lanier Striper Club is a non-profit member organization comprised of 90 dedicated members
interested in fishing for striped bass on Lake Sydney Lanier. Our members range from novices to the
seasoned professional guides. Sharing and learning is a big part of what the club is all about, so no matter
what your skill level is you should fit right in.
The club was established under three mission principles: Fellowship, Conservation, and Education. This is
accomplished through our meetings and fishing outings. Our educational component is accomplished at the
meetings where we share information related to the Striped Bass Fishery on Lake Lanier via guest speakers
(professional fishermen, well-known authors, and experienced guides), GA DNR presentations, membership
open forums, etc. The conservation component is emphasized during our tournaments. We host “Green” fishing
outings in which the fish are caught, electronically documented, and released back into their natural
environment. The fellowship component is blended into all of our gatherings as members share
their fishing knowledge with the rest of the group.
In addition to the mission goals, the Lanier Striper Club also likes to emphasize Community Outreach in
the Lake Lanier Area. The club and its members help support organizations like Get Kids Fishing, GON
SEEDS, the COE's children's pond, and support of the GA DNR's equipment needs.
The club hosts dinner meetings on the first Tuesday of each month at the former location of
Hammond’s Bait & Tackle store, located behind Hammond’s Fishing Center (4255 Keith Bridge Rd. Cumming,
Georgia 30041). Dinner is generally served at 6:30 PM followed by club business that usually starts at
7:00PM. The meals are optional, and the costs are $5.00 per person for those wishing to participate.
Fishing tournaments are held on the Saturday following the monthly meeting, with adjustments made for
holidays and conflicting events. The hours vary depending upon season, lake traffic, and weather. Times
are generally from safe light until mid-day. Times are discussed at the meeting prior to the tournament,
but the final decision is made by the tournament director. The unit of measure for these tournaments
is by length instead of by weight. All contestants must take a legible photograph of their catch and include a
specific tournament day number in the photo. Payout for the tournaments are based upon the number
of boats entered. There is also an optional big fish and big spot pot. The all in cost to enter the
tournament is $30.00 per boat, which includes optional big fish and big spot pots of $5.00 each.
The "weigh-in" location varies depending upon the season, but is usually held at a location where the
participants can enjoy a meal and Fellowship after the tournament.
If you would like to participate in the club's tournament but lack either a boat
or a partner, the tournament director will work with other participants to connect you with
another member or team.
We are currently waiving our initiation fee and the yearly membership is a very reasonable
$60.00 per year. (tournaments and meal costs are additional)
